Essentially Men is lead by Rex McCann, and each weekend is supported by a team of men who are experienced in men's groups.

The course has been running since 1991 and is repeated at 3 monthly intervals in Auckland and occasionally in Wellington and Christchurch.

Each workshop usually attracts between two and three-dozen participants.

Essentially Men is useful for men of all ages at beginning, intermediate or advanced levels of personal growth experience.

Essentially Men has proved to be a safe place for men from diverse ethnic or religious backgrounds and sexual preferences to do their work.

The course is non-residential, runs into the evenings and has a follow-up evening. The programme is well balanced and fun as well as challenging. The longer hours of the course allows time for men to get beyond their old patterns of relating to themselves and others.

After completing the course, participants are encouraged to form or join ongoing support groups. Back up support and referral is available and further workshops are offered from time to time on specific themes.

The Essentially Men workshop is a structured learning programme aiming to provide a safe place for men to explore these and many other issues.

The learning is experiential which means it is based on participating in and reflecting on experiences and communicating with each other, rather than lectures and information given by 'experts'.

The cost of the course is based on a sliding scale from $595 (full price) to $345. We recognise that men have differing financial circumstances, so if necessary slide down this scale according to your means.
